Migraine Awareness Month #3: Just shoot me now! What’s your worst Migraine trigger? Can you avoid it? How do you handle it?
So far I’ve found out one of my biggest triggers is alcohol. Wine, in particular. I think it’s pretty common, so I’m not special in that regard. Obviously, I’ve stopped drinking any alcohol almost completely. It’s no big deal, since I’ve never been a huge fan of it in the first place. However, sometimes I do get a Cuba Libre or two, since a small amount of white rum doesn’t seem to do any harm to my head *fingers crossed*
Also, weather and pressure changes are a big trigger for me. I seem to get a headache before thunderstorms or when the temperature drops or rises quickly. Thankfully, those headaches don’t turn into migraines every time, so I’ve learned to be happy about that! Also, sometimes I get a migraine when the moon is full. I’m not yet 100% sure it’s related, but it has happened enough times that I’m starting to think I might be right about this theory.
Once I do have a migraine, I can’t stand strong smells. Particularly food. It always makes me throw up, without fail, so I call it my vomit trigger :P Also, I can’t touch that particular food after that happens, which means I can’t eat apple pie anymore, among a couple other things.
